NOTES ON THE RACING.
(67ECIAI. TO "THE TRESS.") DTTJfEDIX, January 28. A persistent north-easterly -wind marred the enjoyment of to-day's racing at For-
bury Park. It eoemcd* to increase' in strength a.* the afternoon trnzo on, and mode it uflckse for Emjneline -to attempt to lower her own mile record of Emm 8 3-SUx *e=. This was unfortunate, as the track was in first-class order, and the champion naro is very wdl at present. Thi3 is, I think, the fourth meeting in succession at which she hae been billed to make an attempt on the record, but has bten pre--1 vented either by w-eather or tr*ck conditions. The attendance was very' good, opd the totalieator investments ehowed an increase of £3213. The racing, generally, could not be deecribed as wildly exciting, for most <A the events were won with comparative eaee. Of the eighteen etartera in the First Amitear Handicap, most money »m carried by Mushroom, Allen Boone, and Hiroki, who were backed in that order, Mushroom vren rather comfortably, at tho finish, but he -went very unsteadily, putting in some very bad breaks. Had he been ridden by a 3cs3 accomplished man that his owner, Mr R. J. Munro, he would probably have been beaten. Allen Doone ehowed a good deal of pace, but broke badly, ardt etopped half a mile from home. "Blackball, who finished second, was one of the ©uisiclers of the field, and paid a very good price. HJroki was a poor third. Seven of the seventeen acceptors for the Stewards' Handicap were withdrawn, and Aumiral Wood carried more money than all tho other nine starters, being sent out one of the hottest- favourites ever known on the course. The Cavourite, who was making his first appearance on the track, is a tbrce-year-o!d colt by Wildv-ood Junior. > from D.I.C. He is a quality looking colt, and duly won, but it car.iv t be said that his performance was altogether impressive-, for he did not go at al! steadily, ar.d on several occasions was inclined to mis his {rait. Chatswood, who was second, made the early running, but broke three furlongs from home, and this made Admiral Word'e task easier. Diaarjpccr was mnde a pronounced fsvourito for'vthe, Kensinsrton Handicap, Nora Hurley, and Kinetic being next best backedDisappear found the journey a bit too far for him, and Kinetic, who* was always in a good position, won easily by 6is lengths from Sveetchild, who ccme with a late run end just beat Disappear for eoconcl place. Edith A. and G!er>-Jalou«»h were vrithdratvn from the Dunedin Cup, the big race of tho day, and the letter's stable companion, Jnnisfail, wa3 first favourite, with Pearl Cl'ild end Breeze hext in demand. Pearl Chi'cl ■'"ick'.y put her bnckers out of suspense, for eho refused to strike a gait and wm pulled up. Little Tib etood on tho mark, and took no part in the race, and Schoolgirl, aa usual, befian badly. Tho race is easily described, for Innisfail was in front all the way, and won with a -rood deal in hand. Don Cteppr put up about his best performance to date over two miles in running eccond, and over the .last half mile showed a very good turn of speed, but he had no clwnoo with the winner, nor had Breeze, who finished third. Princess Louise, Crown Prince, and Dr. Chutney were nest behind the placed hor?«s. ** Mies Forest Child, and Chatjwood wore the favourites in tho Trial Handicap, which wae to come extent spoilt by interference on tho part of th« winner, Tottywood, with Rose Gauntlet, who finis'i-ed third. Miss Pejrary showed a lot of pace, but broke badly in the lost lap, while Forest Child was never prominent. Rose Gaunt!et, who is a full eieter to Advance, was quickest to and ehe mado most of the early running, but was tiriusr at the finish, and was beaten by Cbntewood for second pace, while Tottywood won rathor comfortably. A protect wr.s lodged against the winner by T. G. Fox, owner and driver of Rose Gauntkt, .but it wae dismissed, and an appeal was lodged. Tho totalisator money was. in cor.&;qi:cnco, locked up, though some had been paid cut before the protest was lodsjfd. The Otago Handicap, for unhoppled trotters, produced some excitement, for Heriot, who was one of the outsiders of the field, led from the start, and woa etill in front when the etraight was reached. He then tired, and Trutranini, the favourite, beat him home by two lengths. Tika, the frst favourite, finished very strongly after boing rather sow to get going, and was only three longing behind Heriot. Piecework, Inniefail, and Franzalena were scratched for tho King George Handicap, j'or which a strong favourite was made of Brooklyn; who woe brought over from Auetralin a few months ago by C. H. Piper. The favourite was in front all the -wey, and won without any difficulty from Wilkie, who put up a better performance than he has done far eoino time past. Gianella was close up third, just in front of Emmelino and Ravenschild. Emmelino wae :ather s!orw in getting into her stride, but waa finishing very well. The Whip rofiiocd to leave tho mark. The last race of- the day, the Electric Handicap, was responsible for a surprise. Gamechild waa backed very solidly, bxit *1» was 'never really.dangeroue, and Corfcoll won by a coiip'c of lengths from Yellow BibVon, who just beat Truth for second place. May Dillon Jmpexial .Tracey/ and Hamapuka were next to finish, nsi'd the last-named would probably have been closer but-for a brenk: elonj the back stretch. Botfj Corbell -and Yellow Ribbon paid" v«ry larger dividend, ••■•■•- i TING CLUB'S FEBRUAKY MEE'xING. α-he following nominations have been, Iβ- , BRACELET xTANDICAP (in harness), of 75 soys; ono mile and a Half— Hairaki, Leonatus, WUtow Tree, W.M Lady Eona, Rothino, Marilla, Lionheart, No Aacwood.
