ASHBURTON STOCK MARKET.
Owing to harvest operations there was a very sir. all attendance at the weekly stock sale held at the Ashburton yards yesterday, and tho entry also suffered. The yarding comprised 2510 cheep, as against 3187 the previous week at the Tinwald yards, and included 133 fat ewes, 306 fat wethere. 142 fat lambs, and 1843 stores. Thero was keen competition for all classes of fats, and with export buyers operating, prices were very firm, and every line was sold by auction or privately. Of tho ewes, butchers took 89 and export buyers 49, whilo the latter took 334 wethers as against 62 taken by the butchers. Export buyers took the two lines of lambs. Fat ewes made up to 19s, fat wethers to 225, and fat lambs to 18s od. Prices obtained were as follow: —Prime butchers' ewes 17s to 19s, medium 15s to 16s 9d, light-weights 14s Id, prime wethers 19s to 225, others 18s sd, fat lambs 16s 7d to 18s od. The yarding of store sheep totalled 1843, and included 12 wethers and 861 lambs, the balance being ewes and ewes with lambs. There was a fair demand, and only 428 were passed by auction. Sales were:—46 two-tooth half and threequarterbred ewes lis 6d, 288 do. lGs Id; 227 two-tooth halfbred ewes, 18s 4d; 501 crossbred lambs (mostly wethers), los 4d; 55 failing mouth merino ewes and 49 lambs (all counted), 9s 8d; 43 crossbred lambs (mixed sexes). 16s Id ; 154 crossbred wether lambs, 14s Id ; 79 halfbred forward rape lambs (-wethers), 17s. There was a. good yarding of fat cattle, which sold at full market rates. Fat steers made £G 7s 6d to £9 10s, fat heifers £6 5s to £6 10s, fat cows £6 12s Cd to £7 ss.
