• MEETING OF SENATE. (PRESS ASSOCIATION" TELEGRAM.) DUNEDIN, January 26. The University Senate to-day adopted a proposal on tho lines of Professor Hunter's motion to appoint a Board of four Moderators for matriculation, two at least of whom should bo professors. It was decided that the first Board should consist of Professors Hight and Chilton, and Messrs Hogben and \V. F. Ward. It was explained in the discussion that tho examination papers occasionally showed a lack of uniformity some being too easy and otners too difficult. Tho subject selected for the Haydon prize essay lor this year is in effect whether local navies or monetary aid or other contributions to the Imperial Navy will be the better to maintain the sea power of Britain. Tho Agriculture Committee reported that while of opinion that adequate provision should be made by means ot a Government research scholarship for the encouragement of research of j high standard in agriculture, it could not sco its way to recommend the provision at present for honours in agriculture and for a degree of Master of Agriculture. Tho report was adopted. A proposal to add the following words to tho note on page 254 of the Calendar was referred to the Medical Committee: —"But if he then fails, he shall be allowed to present himself again for examination in this subject in the following April." The note referred to roads thus:— ; 'Tho second professional examination (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) is held in January, but the subject of pathology shall be token in the preceding November." Tho object of the motion is to give dental students tho privilege extended to student* in other classes. It was decided that the principles aecepto/1 for the Doctorate of Science he applied to tho Doctorates of Literature and Law. A motion by Professor Hunter that the Science Committee report as to whether it is advisable to continue the recognition of the Mining School at Auckland was negatived by 15 votes to 5.
