Owing to a frost interfering with the signals, the Paris-London express, crowded with English passengers, collided with a goods train. The impact drove a large chest, padlocked to the floor of a truck, through a first-class corridor carriage into a sleeping car adjoining, killing the attendant. The cars partially toppled over, and struck a bridge, bringing the train to a standstill.. i» There were many narrow- escapes. Two ladies and a girl were taken from the wreckage, not seriously* injured. Three laden coal trucks at Beauvaie broke a coupling, and dashed into a passenger train. The guard and a passenger were killed. \
