ASIATICS IN AMERICA
PROBLEM BECOMES ACUTE. (By Cable.—PreM Association.—Copyright.) WASHINGTON, January 23. Mr Wilson, Secretary of the Department of Labour, has advised Speaker Clark that tho Asiatic immigration problem could bo solved if tho standard of admission were raised in order to exclude aliens unable to pass the standard of physical fitness required by tho United States Army. Mr Wilson declares that a concerted movement exists in India and elsewhere to gain admission -to the United States for Asiatics. Canada, he says, is now contemplating a drastic exclusion law, and he advises disposing of the whole question of Asiatics in one measure, as in view of the present considerable influx of Hindoos from the Philippines, the problem is now acute, and an emergency law is necessary. It is understood the Secretary of Labour approves of action on the lines of that already taken in Australia.
