WATERSIDERS' CLAIMS.
AN ADVANCE OF 33 PER CENT. ASKED. (Received December Bth, 8.50 pan.) MELBOURNE, December 8. The Australian waterside workers in their demands to be submitted to the steamship owners ask for an increase of 33 per cent, on current rates of pay, namely, 2s an hour ordinary time at all main ports excepting Queensland, where 2s 6d is asked, and overtime pay at time and a half, and double time for work between noon on Saturday and Monday morning, excepting jhat on Sunday Good Friday and Christmas Day,* for which 10s per hour is wanted. The men stipulate that they shall do no work with sailors or non-unionists, and shall not be asked to receive cargo from non-unionists during a strike. In the case of having to bo vaccinated under the regulations, they demand £1 for each time they undergo the operation. Tho Federation proposes that three sacks shell constitute a load for one man on a "two-wheel truck, truckers to do no other work. In connexion with the accident insurance scheme, for which the employers are responsible, it is suggested that payments from the fund range from 35s weekly to a maximum of £600.
