THE DUNEDIN SEAMEN
A SETTLEMENT IN SIGHT. (PRESS A««-50Ct*TIOV TET-KCBAM.) DUNEDIX, December 5.-' Ie is understood tkat there was no
definite outcome to the meeting held on Thursday beiween the local executive of the ibeamen's Union amUne delegates from the Auckland.and Wellington branches. „ , There seems io Dβ every probability, however, that Mr Justice Williams will be asked to arbitrate in the trouble between the seamen and the shipowners. The seamen ;take the stand that they have, been virtually locked out by reason oif the fact that as soon as come of the intercolonial vessels arrived in port, the crews were paid off, and they feel disinclined to make the first approach to the employers. Prom what can be gathered, it would seem that it only requires the presence of a third party as arbiter to effect a settlement.
