WAIAU.
The Minister of Public Works (the Hon. \Y. Fraser) has telegraphed to the secretary of the Waiau Railway League in reply to the League's resolution congratulating the Government on placing £5000 on the Estimates for a commencement of the work on the Culver-den-Waiau railway, and urging that a vigorous start should be made soon, aa follows:—"Your telegram duly received and I have to thank your League for the kind expressions contained therein, which I shall have pleasure in convoying to the Hon. Mr Massey as desired. —TV. Fraser." Showery weather has been the rule in the Waiau district for the past week or two, retarding shearing operations considerably. Apart from that, however, the rains prove very welcome in maintaining the vigorous growth of grass and crops. Along tho rich Wfliaa flats wheat crops are just out in ear, and etand four feet high, and in a few instances have begun to lie down, owing to length of straw and weight of grain. The preliminary schedule for the Amuri A. and P. Association's seventh annual show has been issued with commendable promptitude, and comprises the usual comprehensive and varied classes. A notable feature is the introduction of a wool section for the display of fleece wool, while the poultry section has been eliminated on account of the poor patronage accorded to it in the past. On account of the January flower show having been dropped this year extra provision is made for this class of exhibit at the March fixture.
