WAIPARA.
The monthly meeting of the Waipara County Council was held on Saturday. Present —Messrs G. Rutherford (chairman), R. Evans, N. D. Campbell, A. Todd, and W. F. Pannett. Letters were received from the Counties' Association regarding the Railway Amendment Bill and the Rating Act Amendment Bill now before Parliament, the former dealing with appliances required by the Railway Department for the control of traffic at level crossings, and the latter regarding rating of leasehold land. It was resolved to support the Railway Hill, and to ask the representative of the district to oppose the Rating Act Amendment Bill. The District Railway Engineer wrote saying he had given instructions for an opening to be iftade to allow stock to be driven to the Waikari railway stockyards through Regent street. Christian wrote objecting to a road crossing recently made in Oxford street. Overseer to interview parties concerned. Mr C. Campbell enquired what had been the result of the report on Greig's road formation. To be informed that the report had been unavoidably postponed. Two petitions were received regarding the weekly half-holiday, and consideration was deferred till the special meeting in January. Tho clerk was authorised to advertise that all rates unpaid after January 16th next would be liable to the 10 per cent, penalty. Tho tender of Messrs Ryan Bros, for shingling at the Vulcan,. Motunau, was accepted, and that of Mr James Quinn for Scargill cutting and shingling, was accepted. Tho control of motor-cars and motor-cycles by-law, made by special order, was confirmed, and it will come into force on December 31st, 1913. At the annual meeting Mr G. Rutherford was re-elected chairman for the ensuing year.
