THE TERRITORIALS.
B SQUADRON CAMP
B Squadron, Ist M.lt. (C.V.C.), is in camp on a field at Tai Tapu, kindly lent by Captain R. Macartney, who lately commanded the old Canterbury Mounted Rifles, which amalgamated with the Waimakariri Mounted Rifles when thej new defence scheme started, and now forms B Squadron of the Ist Regiment (C.V.C.). A large muster was expected, but owing to the industrial unrest, the number in camp is considered very satisfactory, there being two officers and 47 men present. All ranks are "showing a great keenness in their training, which bo far has consisted of musketry, squad, and troop drill, equitation, and advance guard and outpost work. Particular attention is being paid to camp and stable duties.
Lectures are held every evening in the men's dining marquee, when the officers give theoretical instruction on various subjects, and the men are invited to discuss and ask questions upon the respective matters laid before them. Last Sunday church parade was held at 11 a.m., when the men attended the churches at Tai Tanu and Lincoln. The keenness of the men is shown by the fact that the camp is a voluntary one, and that they contribute £1 per man towards its cost. Some of the local settlers have .kindly assisted them by forwarding supplies. Sports will be held this afternoon, and a, good programme has been arranged.
