AKAROA.
-At the annual meeting of the Akaroa County Council, held on Wednesday, Air J. l>. Bruce was re-elected chairman. An ordinary meeting was then held, all the members being present. Pursuant to notice, Mr E. Hay moved: "That in future, instead of 2s (5d per yard being charged each Road Board for crushing metal, that each Road Board be charged with the actual cost of crushing." The motion was lost. The lease of Reserve No. 1259 to J. E. Ferguson -was signed by the Council. The Council again considered the question of taking proceedings against a tenant for allowing timber to be taken from a reserve, and decided to defer taking any steps until after the next meeting. The clerk reported that ho had made a formal application to the Government Insurance l>epartment for the £1200 lain for the Robinson's Bay wharf and road. In reply to the Council's representations regarding the provisions in the Railway Bill, providing that local bodies should bear the cost of bells, gates, etc., at level railnay crossings, the Hon. R. H. Rhodes informed the Council that these clauses had been struck out of the Bill. A circular from the New Zealand Counties' Association, regarding the Rating Amendment Bill was received, and consideration deferred pending further information. The Akaroa har-bour-master wrote stating that it was illegal for anyone to take material from the foeshore of the harbour without oermission from the Minister of Marine, and that local bodies would be charged at the rate of 3d per ton for material so removed. The letter was received. The crusher engineer's report -was read; 979 yards of metal had b-en crushed for the Okain's Bay Road Board during the month. In consideration of his having allowed the crusher stnff to cart water from his tanks for the engine, it was decided to crush six yards of metal for W. Murphy free of charge. ]tf r jr,. Macartney's tender of £150 for the erection of the Onawe wharf shed was accepted. The Pigeon Bay Road Board submitted amended plans of the proposed bridge, which the Council had agreed to subsidise. The plans were accepter! hv +>«» Council. The Chairman and were authorised to arrange wi*h the contractor to do the necessary work on the Flat road, which had not been included in his contract.
