HEATHCOTE.

The annual meeting of the Heathcoto County Council was held on "Wednesday. Present—Mr Geo. Scott (chairman), Messrs Anderson, Armstrong, Burton, Biajr, Flavel, and Muloock. Before commencing business, Mr Burton moved a resolution expressing the Council's sympathy with Mr G. Scott on the death of his brother, Mr J. L. Scott. The Chairman reviewed tho Council's work for the past year, and thanked the members for their courtesy and assistance. Ho also referred to the satisfactory manner in which the officers of the Council had carried out their work. Having vacated the chair, which was taken by the clerk, a motion by Mr Burton, thanking the chairman for his services, was adopted unanimously. Mr Scott was again elected chairman by the unanimous wish of the Council" A resolution expressing regret at the death of Mr Laurenson, M.P., and sympathy with Mrs Lauronson and family, was carried. The Council adopted a resolution approving qf the lay-out of the Cashmere extension, as per the plan submitted by the trustees, conditionally on special arrangements being made for the surface drainage of the higher portion of the land. The Council's resolution expressly stated that it did not tako.over the roads. Certain works in connexion with the widening of Colombo road were authorised. The whole Council were appointed a Bylaws and Finance Committee, with Mr Anderson as chairman. On the n-otion of Mr Flavel, it was decided to arrange for "lighting the eastern end of tho Ferry bridge. A letter from the St. Martin's BurgT-sps' Association regarding electric lighting was reonived. An invort at the corner of Hills road and read was authorised. It was decided that owing to the Lyttelton election falling on the date of the next Council meeting, to "•oet the following dny, Wednesday, 10th Decemher, at 2.30 p.m.
