UNION COMPANY'S CREWS GIVE NOTICE.

COMMERCIAL CIRCLES ALARMED.

EMPLOYERS TO TAKE A HAND.

(Received November 26th. 12.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, November 25. The crew of the Maheno. which was supposed to saiL at noon to-morrow for Wellington,, gave twenty-four hours' notice this morning. The Karitane's crew has given similar notice. The Makura was to have sailed for Newcastle to coal early to-day, but was unable to leave owing to a, portion oi the crew absenting themselves. Though a large crowd of watersiders and seamen congregated in the vicinity of the Union Company's "wharf, everything was quiet and orderly. Business men view the tieing up of the New Zealand trade with alarm. Much inconvenience is being experienced in commercial circles. At the monthly meeting of the .Employers' Federation, the following cablegram from the Wellington Federation was read:— "Kindly advertise that New Zealand cargo is only being handled by Arbitration unionists, and no real reason I exists for Australian unionists refusing \ to handle it." The Federation resolved, in t?ie interests of the general public, to co-op-erate with the shipping companies in securing a continuance of their services.
