Business in the local grain market is still somewhat restricted. There is a fair demand for prime lines. Tuscan is worth nominally 3s 7d to Ss Sd; Red chnff 3s 91d, and Velvet 4s. Oats—Although enquiries are coming in for good heavy oats,, buyers show no inclination to advance prices, and unless holders are prepared to accept current quotations, the business passes thorn. A Gartons are quoted at up to 2s; B grade at Is 10d to Is lid: others, Is 9d to Is 10d ; Duns and Danish up to 2s. Potatoes—The market for old potatoes is practically finished; best ■ freshly-picked table potatoes are quoted nominally at 255, to 30s per ton. Oatsheaf chaff is in good demand at £3 os per ton, eacks extra. ASHBURTON STOCK MARKET. The attendance at the weekly stock sale held at the Temuka yards "yesterday was only moderate, but the entry showed an increase, and totalled 1"45 sheep as against 1290 the previous week at the Ashburton yards. The yarding in the fat pens included 216 fat ewes. 1.52 fat wethers, 18 fat lambs, and two I hoggets, but the quality wa<s very mdii- ] J ferent, and several lines vrore taken by j I graziers. There was practically no competition for the small yarding of store sheep and of the 1357 yarded, 1283 were passed by auction. There was a decided improvement in the yarding of cattle, and fat steers made £6 10s to £9; fat heifers £6 to £6 7s 6d; fat cows £5 to £7 10s; heifers, springing £4 10s to £7 ss; cows, springing £5 to £7 10s; heifers in profit. £7 5s to £7 12s 6d; yearling stores, £2 18s to £3; calves 38s: buU £3.
