ROYAL ARTILLERY BAND.

THE CHRISTCHURCH CONCERTS. THIS EVENING AND TO-MORROW. A rare musical treat is to be provided for music-lovers in Christchurch this evening and to-morrow by the Royal Artillery Band, which will give two concerts at the King Edward Barracks. The Band has already played at Dunedin and Timaru, with remarkable success, the audiences being most enthusiastic. There are forty-four playing members in the Band, all described as being highly skilled musicians and virtually soloists. Tlie balance of the Band is said to be wonderfully fine; its tono admirable. The members have, in fact, all been recruited into the regiment wholly for musical service, and the results are what might be expected from their steady training and splendid discipline. Under the baton of Mr E. C. Stretton. the Band is said to play with a delicacy varied with every requirement of tho musical moment, its reserve of power being such that it can produce surprising and splendid results. This evening's concert, the programme of which appears elsewhere, will commence at 8 o'clock. There will be an entrance from Montreal street for the holders of two shilling tickets. The rest of the audience will approach the hall from Cashel street. The concert to-morrow afternoon will commence at half-past two. The programme will include the following items:—March, "Pomp and Circumstance" (Elgar); overture, "Oberon" (Weber); "Menuet" (Paderewski); "Hungarian Rhapsody" No. 1 (Liszt); selection, "Tanniiauser" (Wagner); suite, "La Remo do Saba" (Gounod); .Polish Dance (Scharwenka); selection, Aida (Verdi); "Grand Valse de Concert" (Tito Mattei); and "Reminiscences of Sullivan." Our Timaru correspondent telegraphs: —"The Royal Artillery Baud played at Timaru this evening, and repeated the successes of Dunedin. A warm welcome was extended to the Band on itarrival by the local Territorial officers, and uniforms were prominent among the audience. The interest in the Band is specially keen here on account of tho recent fine performances in the contest of the Timaru Band, which played out6ido the theatre ahd attended the concert. The members of the Band will bo the guests of the Honorary Territorials to-morrow, on a motor drive round tho district before proceeding to Christchurch.
