FEDERAL POLITICS.

'NORFOLK ISLAND BILL

THE SALE OF LIQUOR.

(Br C*We.— ?*«* Association—Copyright.) MELBOURNE, November 22. The Boose of Representatives passed a Bill providing for the transfer of Norfolk Island from the State of New South Wales to the Commonwealth. It includes a clause prohibiting the manufacture., importation, and sale of alcoholic liquors; also* an amendment in favour of taking a local option poll of residents. Mr Glynn asked tho committee to negative* the amended clause, as at present the only sale of liquor on the island was for medicinal purposes, and in the hands of tho Mission and the magistrates. If tho amended clause were carried, it might upset the peace and harmony of the inhabitants.

The amended clause was then rejected and a new clause prohibiting the manufacture of liquor inserted.
