SENATE ON STRIKE. DOUBLE DISSOLUTION PROBABLE. (By C»ble.—Prase Associ»tioe —Copyright.) MELBOURNE, November 20. The Senate is practically on strike. After transacting preliminary business, the Opposition, by 2o votes to 1. forced an adjournment, till to-day as a protest against the Government adjourning tho Senate a. fortnight ago and then proceeding with business itself while a no-confidenco motion was hanging over tho Government.
The Loader of tho Opposition, in moving the resolution, dwlared that as the Government was prepared to conduce business with a want-of-con-fidence motion still pending, it was time the Senate showed tho people that the true frieuds of constitutional government wore the Opposition.
The representative of tho Ministry characterised tho motion a«* a deliberate attempt to frustrate business aud bring it to a standstill.
Ministerialist senators subsequently claimed that the Opposition tactic* had made a double dissolution necessary.
It is generally agreed that a crisis i-> approaching, and the revelation of the Government's line of action •in meeting the latest phase of the political deadlock is anticipated with keen interest.
