REPORTED LOSS OF STEFANNSON.
A NAVIGATOR'S OPINION

VANCOUVER. November 13
Captain Backland, an American Arctic navigator, thinks that Stefannson is uot lost, but lias merely been pent up in the ice while the expedition is camping on floes. Stefannson declared that he expected to do this if caught in the ice, and did not anticipate danger.
