THE ENGLISH-CANTERBURY MATCH.
C.J.C. SUMMER MEETING. "THE WEEKLY PRESS." The principal subjects of illustration *in . this week's "Weekly Press" are the Bands' Contest at Masterton, the English-Canterbury Cricket Match, and the .Summer Meeting of the Canterbury Jockey Club. Among the Band pictures are all the principal events of the gathering. Included in the cricket pictures are very fine groups of the English and Canterbury teams, and there is also a - fine picture showing the English team in the field, which will be treasured by many cricket enthusiasts. In the literature pages will be found the opening chapters of a new serial, entitled "The Chase' of the Ruby." it is from the pen of Richard Marsh, whose- "Luckiest Man in the World," just completed, has enjoyed such a remaikable success. A" liberal instalment of -ne story is given. Leading features in the Farmer this w*ek%re the annual report of the Christchurch Meat Company and reports of several important sheep sales. The pedigree stock trade in Scotland during the past year, and the condition of pastoral affairs in South Wales are among the subjects dealt with editorially. The London correspondent gives information concerning the meat and produoe trade; and letters from country correspondents, farm topics, stock notes, arid commercial news go to make up a good number. The racing at the Canterbury Jockey Club's Summer (Meeting at Riccarton last week forms the subject of the leading article in the "Referee," and the Fancy Free-Major Robin "ringing-in" case, which resulted in a Supreme Court trial and conviction, is also discussed editorially. An interesting article is that dealing with English three-year-olds and this season's classic races. Followers of cricket will find much to interest them in a full account of tlie English team's doings during tb,e past week. ■In the aquatic columns the resultsNof the . races at the Christchurch Regatta are reviewed and reference is also made to the Championship Regatta, which takes place at Wanganui on Thursday.
