Canon Paseoe was a passenger from the South by the express last evening. Mr T. lE. Taylor, M.H.R., Mr D. Buddo, M.H.8., Mr I. GiWbe, Mr D Tbomae, Mr J. A. Park (Mayor of Donedin), and Mr B. 0. Bansome went South by tihe express yesterday morningMr W. Hogarth, Mr G. S. Mtmro, Mr Bipgham, Mr D. Macpherson, Mr and Mrs A. A. Thomson (Sydney), Mr G. N? Thompeon (Sydney), Mr Hogg, Mr R. Sierra** (Gisborne), Mr Earl (Giaborne), Mr J. Hayden (Gisbome), Mr Builer, Mr Begg (Dunedin), Bey. Mx WateiH (Dinfodin), Mr Marchant (Dunedin), Mr Frean, Mr Maefarlane, Bey. W. Alison (England), and Mr J. Borbhwiok are visitors to town. Recent callers at the local agency at the Tourist Department were:—Mr A. M. Huxtable (Dunedin), Mr F. Anderson (Ireland), Messrs J. and H. Snutz (Melbourne), and Mr and Mrs A. A. Thomson (Sydney). His friends will be glad to learn that Mr E. C. Brown, manager of the g.LC, who returned this week from tflie North Island to resume bis bueines* duties, has much benefited in health by his trip. Constable E. C. Trcfhey, who has been stationed for four years in this city, part of which time he was in charge at Sumner, has been transferred to Demueton, and leaves for that place next week.
Yesterday the employees of. the North Canterbury Co-operative Stores Company, Kangiora, made a presentation of a gold albert, watahguaid, and pendant to Mr H. C. Holcroft, of the grocery department. Mr £. W- Belph, manager, in banding the present to Mr HoCcroft, referred in term* of commendation to hie business habits, and wished : liim on behalf of the subscriber* eve.iy success in the new venture which he is undertaking. Among the latest arrivals !in Hanmer are: —At the Spa—Miae J. E. Peter (Mount Somers), Miss B. Ford (Addiagton), Mr and Mrs Ward (Sydenham), Mr Smith (Timani). At Amoiri Grange—Mr Hooper, Mr Thompson, Mr Poff, Miae and Master Poff (Templeton), Mr Geddie, Mr Wilde (Moegiel), Mr Forrest. At Windsor House—Misa Forder (Chxietohuroh), Mr and Mrs Clarlcson.
- A Napier telegram states that the Very Rev. D«an Grogan, who has been in charge of the Napier Catholic parish for many years, and who has only recently returned from a twelve months' trip to America, Great-Britain and the Continent, has been appointed to the permanent charge of the Wanganui parish, and will leave for his new home next week. Hβ will be succeeded in Napier by the Rev. Fatter Goggan, who acted as locum tenens for Dean Grogan during the latter'e absence cm hie holiday.
At a meeting of the Spreydan School Committee, held on Thursday, it was decided to recommend Miss HcGorman for the position of assistant mietrcfls.
