NORTH CANTERBURY ESCAPES.
Although the weather looked threatefiyig and a heavy bank of thunder clouds was seen to the south-west, the hailstorm did rot r-each tine North Canterbury district beyond Christchurch. At Rangiora the weather was fine but threatening, and, further north hay tedding was in progress all day, and some farms were cutting early oate. • .?
Between 6.30 and 7.30 o'clock the •weather at Ashley looked very threatening, but the etorm seemed to go out to sea. Rain fell throughout the district early in the evening.
