A violent thunderstorm broke over Ashburton at noon yesterday. UnusuaHy loud peaJs of thunder and vivid flashes of lightning, with a heavy downpour of rain, waa experienced, and some time afterwards a perfect gaie of wind swept over the town. The storm did not last long, but sufficiently so to uproot big trees and to wreck the back buildings of the Farmers' Co-operative store. Mr J. Tucker's timber yard, and Mr D. Thomas's back store were also damaged.
