CRICKET MATTERS.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE PRESS. Sir,—ln view of the approaching visit of Lord Hawke's team, it is to be hoped that Canterbury will not be anything behind the umpire City in their patronage for the good and glorious game of cricket. Wellington ha,s undoubtedly set us an excellent example. Canterbury is the home of cricket, and should produce some of the finest cricketers, owing to its facilities m the matter of good grounds. It is now the duty of every cricketer to put forth all his" energy to make the visit of such a worthy team as Lord Hawke's a pronounced success. A good deal depends on the form shown by our men in the coming contest. The mere fact of beating such formidable opponents as Otago and Wellington should inspire them with plenty of confidence, which is kali the battle.in big matches. The Canterbury team will be a strong combination. 3o"wling and fielding are their best points,' their ixitting being rather unreliable. At the same time, they have some sturdy batsmen, of the hitting type, and if these get going they will make thine* very merry. I should like to see the. "Canterbury Cricket Association avail themselves of "the opportunity of getting the services of such an experienced player as Mr C. Ban.nerm.an to coach them for tkig next fortnight, and let such enthusiasm be thrown into the practices that a special report of the form" shown by each individual player be .reported through the columns of the paper.—l am, etc., INTERESTED CRICKETER.
