TO THE EDITOR OF THE PBES3

Sir,—lt will no doubt prove a difficult task for a large proportion of the Christchurch electors to decide which aro the four most eligible candidates to represent them on the Tramway Board. Most of the candidates are well-known public men, but tew of them have any practical knowledge of a tramway service, either electrical or otherwise. ' There will be -a fairly unanimous opinion as to the wisdom of electing Messrs Reeoe, Stead, and Wigram, on account of their sound business and financial knowledge, but it is the fourth member which will prove most difficult to eelect. Mr Wm. Hayward has had a long experience in providing for the safe conduct of the public, both as coach proprietor, and, for some years, in connection with the Canterbury Tramway Company. He has irecently bee/i to England and America, where he had eppor-, tunitke of studying the latest tramway systems, and hie connection with euck' matters naturally caused him to make every use of euch opportunities. It, therefore, seems to me that his knowledge would piove invaluable to euch a Board.—Your* truly, SUMNER RESIDENT. Christchurch, January ISth, 1903.
