"PRESS" v "TIMES."
The first of a series of three matches arranged between the literary staffs of the above papers was commenced at Hagley Park on January 6th, continued on the following Tuesday, <aoid brought to a conclusion yestwdUy, when the "Press" won a well contested game by 33.-runs. Scores- — "Press" 98 (W. H. Graham 19, E. Hardcastle 17 not out, J. Paxker 16, F. C. Thomas 14, and W- F- Alexander 12) and 184 (A. J. Barge 105, L. Fanning 29, and l>. Hamber 28); "Times" 135 (King 51, W G. Atack 37, and East 10) and 114 (King 27, H. M. Reeves 16, East 18, W- G. Atack 14, and S. Saunders 13 not out). Fanning, Hardca-stle, Thomas, and Hamber bowled well for tha •μ-iriikere, and Atack, Dickson, and Reeves trundled best fur the loseis.
At the conclusion of the above match the second contest was commenced, when the "Times" captain won the toss, and elected to bat ffrst, with the result that they scored 132 for the loss of five wickets by the ca'.l of tim.3. Dickson contributed 3? not out, Atack 33, King 29, and Reeves 13. Thomaa and Fanning divided the wickets between them for the "Press," whose bowling and fielding was considerably below the form they exhibited earlier in the afternoon.
