NORTH ISLAND TOURNAMENT.

The bowling tournament was continued to-day in dull weather, with one or two very light showers. AH interest in the two final games centred in the matches which Newmarket and Palmerston (.'ugaged in, both teams leading in their sections, ilia former luiving one more win to its credit than the latter. Contrary i-a expectations Newmarket went down to New Plymouth by a bare point, but in the last round defeated the Victoria Club (Wellington) with 15 points to spare. Palmerston won both its yaines, defeating Wanganui and Dannevirke,£eadh by the narrow margin of three. This brought both teams equal in wins. The final was one of the most exciting contests of the tournament. Up to about hallway through the game it was a ding-dong go, and the excitement was intense. Onoe Palmerston obtained the lead they were not seriously troubled, winning by 27 to 15. Following aid the results:—-

Wellington and Gisborne drew byes. Thirteenth round—«?almerston 23 v. Dannevirke 20, Auckland 16 v Newtown 15, Pahiatua 24 v Hawera 22, Feilding 24 v Upper Plains 16, Ponsonby 30 v Carterton 12, Stratford 18 v Napier 16, Wellington 27 v Waverley 17, Hustings 31 v Gieborne 11, Petone 27 Pafcea 10, N"ewmarket 27 v Victoria 12, Thorndon 22 v Whataupoko 19, Masterton 28 v Kaiti New Plymouth and Wanganui drew byes. Final round—Palmexston 27 v Newmarket 15. The President's trophy for the highest aggregate number of points was won by the Hastings Club. The pennant matches, Christchurcb Bowling Club v. Southbridge Club, and Canterbury Club v. Southbridge Club, will be played to-day on the respective greens. The match on the Christehurch green will start at 10 a.m., and that on the Canterbury green at 1 p.m. The following are the three rinks representing the Canterbury Club:— J. Thompson, W. Jacques, .J. Brown, F. J. Barlow (skip); D. Neave, H. Lee, D. Munro, J. M. Taylor {skip; ; I. Woolf, T. Mamott, W. Gee, H. Oakley (skip). The annual tournament of the New Zealand Bowling Association will commence on Monday next, on the greens of the Ohxistchurch and Canterbury Bowling Clubs. Already several of the Dunedin players are in town, and a number of the competitors are expected to arrive by ttoe express to-day.
