MR GEORGE SCOTT'S VIEWS.
Mr tJ«orge &cott, who is a candidate for tho Woolston, S-jxiiner, aaid Heathcote sui>ciitrict, is in favour of the tramways being under munlcifal control, and considera thm. the Board shouid have complete control of tlxj building snd running of the lines, and should band willwr over to any company or-syndicate. Hβ will inejftt on the employment of a competent expert, who shall advise and have charge of the building of the tramways under the Board's control. Mr Scott htis every confidence in the suco«e of an up-to-date electrical tram eervioe. The first aim and object in building nnd working the tramways miust be the convenience and service of the public, and on no account should they bo made profitable at. tk: expense of utility or comfort. Everything must be done to serve the public bsfore any attempt is made to create a m'.rplu-s. iMr Scott holds the opinion that the system which obtains in New York and other places where one fare ia charged for any distance is preferable to that of the yenny sections. There should be no tinkering with the present tramways eyebem, and the Bot»rd ehould begin the whole business anew. One of the very first functions of the Board should be the re-mapping of the whole district, with a view of providing tho bast and xnost complete system possible and one that will serve thu majority of the public. Mr Scott'e experience and inspection of the latest phases* of tramway RervioeS, during his recent visit to Europe, he coTKsidere ehould specially qualify him far a seat on the Board.
