THE TRADES' AND LABOUR COUNCIL'S PLATFORM.
The Canterbury Trades' and Labour Council have decided to submit the following questions to candidates:—(l) If elected, will you oppose the purchase by the Board of the fpknft. of the existing tramway companies? (2) Will you do your utmost to secure the construction; of the lines and plant, and tbe management nf the system when constructed, by the Board, on behalf,.of the municipalities? (3) Whether constructed 'by tbe Board or let by contract, will you insist as regards all persons employed—(a) upon a normal eight hours day, (b) one day's rest in seven and a weekly half-holiday, (c) not less than trade union rate of wages, end all unskilled labour to be. paid not less rtihan 8s per day, (d) in ihe employment of labour preference w> be in every case given to unionist*? (4) Wherever possible, materials produced and maifufactured in the colony to oe used in preference to the imported article? (5) Wherever possible, all •vrork to bo done oy day labour?
