POVERTY BAY BUSH FIRES.
HEAVY LOSSES BY SirTTLERS.

WAJBOA, January 10. The following settlers are heavy losers by the Moreree bush fire:—Coop Bros., C. Chapman, A. Richardson, P. Walsh, L. Joblin, A. Proudlock, Mclntyre, Swarbrick, Mc__i__ess, and Mayder. The lastnamed lost his house and woolsbed. The stock lost is unknown. The fire travelled in the direction of the coast, towards Gisborne. Bailey Bros., of Paritu, lost four miles of fencing. The Moreree Hot Spring* bush is still burning. Ths Moreree correspondent of tho "Poverty Bay Herald" telegraphs that the country around Moreree is one in—Dense bus-u. fire, which k> being fanned by » strong westerly wind. The set-lew are having a most trying experience, their homesteads being anrrounded by burning trees. Sparks from the bosh keep falling on the roofs of the dwellinga. The sight of the burning trees is most beautiful to watch at night for those not interested. Mr Coop is stated to be a heavy loser, having lost three thousand sheep and all his outbuilding*, also timber sawn for bis new building. James Cooper came througo with a party of ladies. They had a moat thrilling experience driving- through the fixe and amoks for fourteen miles, at tine* having to make the bones gaHop, and being stopped at other tunes by large
