OINTMENT OF BISHOP OF WINCHi-STER.

The Bishop of Winchester has succeeded the late Dr. Temple as Archbishop of Canterbury. The Right Rev. Randall Thoipas Davidson. Bishop of Winchester, was born on April 7th, 1848, of Scottish parents. He was educated at Trinity College, Oxford, ■wiser* he obtained the degiee of D.D.', and in 18 1 A was made curate of Dartford, Kent. Three years later he became chaplain and private secretary to Archbishop 'i'ait, of Cantotbury, whose second daughter !he married in 1878. During 1882-83 he acted as private secretary to Archbishop Benson, and as lion, chaplain and subalmoner to the kite Queen. From 1880 to 1883 he was one of the six preachers of -Canterbury Cathedral, and from 1883 to 1891 Dean of Windsor, and domestic chaplain to the Queen. In the latter year he was made Bishop of Rochester, and in •1895 he succeeded to the Bishopric* of Winchester, and Oecaine a Prelate of the Order of the Garter.
