MEETINGS, ENTERTAINMENTS, &c.
The annual concert in aid of the Aehbcrton Borough School prize fund took place on Friday evening. An interesting programme was gone through, and the several items contributed by the children gave evidence of carefui training. ; On Friday eyening the members of the Christchnrch Working Men's Club rifle class fired another competition at the 200 yards rang?. The following were the hieheet scorers :—C. W. Sherwood (ucr) 34, R. C. Wells (scr) 34, — Blake~(l) 34, R. G. Forgie (I) 33. C. Large, (4) 33, A. Cowan (scr) 31, J, Costley (2) 31. Yesterday afternoon, at the Lodge room of the Tbeosophical Society, a paper was read by the president, Mr J. B..Wither. Mr, W. W. Collins gave a lecture last night in the Lyceum on •* Historical Records before the Time of Adam." The Egyptian and. Assyrian tablets, tombs and {rionunienta, were largely referred to. A concert and dance was held in the Yaldhurst Schoolroom on Friday evening, to raise funds to pay off the debt incurred in improving the Yaldhurst Swimming bath. Songs were contributed by Misses Johnson, E. Wells, Kiell, Scott, Cutte, , Campbell, Messrs Scott,- Hail, Alexander, Reid, Zachariah, Peterson, and Hansen : duets by Misses Johnson and Campbell, Pollard and Thompson, and Messrs Petersen and Zachaiiah; recitations Dy Miss Wilson and Mr Ryan, and a selection by Fox's band. Miss M. Wells acted as accompanist.
