Nukuhou

Mrs McGillivray presided over a good attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the Nukuhou Women’s Institute last Wednesday evening. Mrs McGillivray and Mrs Spanhake were appointed delegates to attend a drama meeting on January 9 at Whakatane, and officers and members intend attending a school to be held at Opotiki. Mrs Spanhake gave a reading on bicycles. Mrs Menzies demonstrated weaving as done on Norfolk Island. Mrs Menzies and Mrs Spanhake were accorded votes of thanks. Final arrangements were made for the Christmas tree to be held on Saturday for the children of the district. Christmas gifts were exchanged. The competitions were well entered for and Mrs Wylde acted as judge. Results: — Best single bloom, Mrs Menzies 1, Miss Croft 2, Mrs Savage 3; best multiple bloom, Miss Croft 1, Mrs W. Macdonald 2, Mrs Doran 3; best Vegetable, Mrs Doran 1, Mrs Menzies 2, Mrs R. Bell 3; soft toy, Mrs F. Spanhake 1, Mrs Menzies 2, Mrs Doran 3; shortbread, Mrs Englebreteson 1. Mrs Menzies 2. Mrs E. Williams 3; decorated saucer, Mrs Williams 1, Mrs Englebretson 2. Mrs Doran 3. • Members gathered around the piano and sang several carols.
