USED CARS IN DEMAND BUT IN SUPPLY TOO
With the advent of holidays, used cars are in demand in Whakatane but more are offering now than for months. Most dealers in town and district and many private vendors are offering ranges of vehicles. It is apparent that sellers who have been holding for the holidays have all put their vehicles, on to the market at once, with the result that, though the demand is there, so are are cars. Buyers are, consequently, taking their time and are choosing carefully. Prices, as everywhere, have tended to harden in recent months. Reasons given are the approach of holidays and the likelihood that war-scare will limit imports - of new cars still more than at present. Whatever buyers may think of Whakatane prices, these are lower than those in Auckland. There too, a range has come on the market but at prices which would \ not easily tempt country buyers. It is said that Auckland salesmen who brought cars here last week went home in disguest.
