MAJOR EVENTS FOR THE WAR MEMORIAL
Arrangements for major events early in the New Year were made at a meeting of the Whakatane War Memorial Entertainments Sub-Com-mitte executive on Wednesday night.
Present were the Mayor, Mr S. S. Shapley, and Messrs L. D. Lovelock, H. L. Drube, R. S. Buttimore, H. H. Armstrong, T. Hurndell and J. Kelsey. Mr Kelsey was elected chairman. The secretary reported that all clubs, societies and other organisations had been circularised asking them to advise the committee of the nature of the function or event that they are prepared to organise, or, in the event of such organisation not being able to organise a suitable event, whether such organisation will render assistance when called upon. It was decided to organise for the holding of at least three major events: A rowing and speed boat regatta, an athletic and motor cycle meeting, and a sports and horse gymkhana early in the New Year.
