Waimana Fishermen Protest

Strong protests concerning the prohibition of the treble hook for trout fishing in the Rotorua acclimatisation district have been made to the authorities by Waimana anglers. This new regulation, which came into force when the fishing season opened, has been greeted with concern throughout the Whakatane area but Waimana fishermen are said to be most affected. It is understood that the protests have been lodged because natural minnow fishermen are particularly penalised by the prohibition. There have been a number of instances Where veteran anglers have been forced to abandon the type of fishing they have enjoyed for many years.
