Athletic Season Will Open On Saturday
In preparation for the opening of its season next Saturday, the Whakatane Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club has done much work at the Domain.
The new track will be ready after Christmas and it is proposed to hold a major sports meeting early in the' New Year. Several former athletes have offered their services as coaches. '' An endeavour will be made to secure the services of a coach from the Waikato Centre for a weekend. At. the annual meeting of the club, the following officers were elected:—Patron, Mr H. G. Warren; president, Mr J. Parkinson; vicepresidents, Rev. R. T. Dodds, Messrs C. D. Molesworth, W. W. Turner, and A. White; secretary, Miss H. Joyce; treasurer, Mr T. Windley; committee, Mrs Stewart and Messrs H. Armstrong, W. Bridger, G. Howell, B. Johnson, A. Debreceny; J, Taylor and I. McKenzie; club tain, Mr J. Chadwick; vice-captain, Mr G. Powley; handicapper, Mr B Johnson, starter, Mr J. Parkinson; assitant starter and referee, Mr P. Stewart; coaches, Messrs Stewart and N. D. Morpeth.
