FUTURE OF TOWN PLANNING IN WHAKATANE
The hope that the town planning scheme would not be abandoned was expressed by Cr R. T. Morpeth at Monday's meeting of the Whakatane Borough Council. The scheme had not been abandoned but it contained too many headaches and was in abeyance, said the Mayor, Mr B. S., Barry.
"All we can do is not kill it but leave it to the new council," he said. "The Act is too hard and fast for this town."
"Many towns owe a lot to town planning," said Cr Morpeth. "Some compromise should be worked. We did not give it enough considerat' >n to warrant abandonment." No decision was made.
