OHOPE'S NEED FOR SCHOOL SUPPORTED
The resolution of Ohope parents expressing their intention not to send 'their children to school unless satisfactory accommodation was provided at Ohope by the beginning- of next term was received at a meeting of the Whakatane Primary School Committee on Monday night. The committee decided to support the resolution insofar as the need for a school at Ohope was concerned.
The erection of a school at Ohope would mean relief at the Whakatane school, where the roll of about 740 represents an increase of ' nearly 100 in the last year. The opening of an Ohope school would mean that the accommodation in town would be just sufficient for needs. With eight prefabricated buildings m use, Whakatane itself needs a new school. While plans are being prepared for this, it is not expected that its coming will be early. Steady increase in the Whakatane school roll is expected during the next few years.
