Opening Of Bowls At Taneatua

The Taneatua bowling green was officially opened for the season by Mr J. W. Goodhew, president of the club on Saturday, the opening having been postponed from the previous Wednesday. The first jack was rolled up by Mrs E. Hill, president of the Croquet Club, and Mr J. Moody, a foundation member, played the first bowl.

Sixty-four members and visitors participated, ladies of the Croquet Club provided afternoon tea. Results of play:— Johnston, King, Coates, Good (s) 16 Gardiner, Mair, Goodhew, Hunt (s) 18; Bradley, Ball, Duley, Murphy (s) 30 Chappell, Rutherford, White, Smaljon (s) 19; Kirkbride, Callyhon, Geer Moore (s) 26 Henry, Parr, Gerring, Anstis (s) 21; Tocker, Moody, Middlemas, Lawn (s) 10 McGougan, Compton, Black, Rae (5)25; Mills, Ruddick, Ricketts, Mclsaac (s) 22 Mitchell, Chamberlain, E. Chamberlain, Foster (s) 21: Atkinson, Merrie, Head, Cradwick (s) 19 Danks, Thomasen, Butler, Howat (s) 12; Sumner, Miller, Burgess, Harris (s) 28 Whitehead, Sim?, Wilson, Dixon (s) 12; O'Brien, Hill, Grace, Torrie (s) 23 Shaw, Brophy. Shauley, Drube (s) 21. The first picnic tournament of the season will be held on October 15.
