READERS CONSIDER

COMMENDATION DESERVED Sir, —Your paper deserves commendation for the column "Does Whakatane Need." This coloumn itself fills - a long felt want because it makes people realise how many things the town lacks.

The four items suggested so far do not all call for action from the Borough Council unless ,that body decides to change its tactics and become leaders of thought in the district.

The old Council about to expire is unlikely to take action in its closing days since it has left so many things undone for so long, but the new Council might well place your paper's suggestions on record for action at a suitable time. So far your column has advocated a drainage system, a Kindergarten, a fire station and a little less monopoly in the control of semi-public bodies. All of these suggestions have much merit. Yours etc., NEW BROOM. Whakatane, October 10.

FEDERATED FARMERS Sir, —In your issue of the 29th ultimo there is a report of an executive meeting of the Bay of Plenty Sub-Province of Federated Farmers (Auckland Province). As such matters are causing a great deal of confusion in the mmds of many people allow me to point out that the Bay of Plenty Province of Federated Farmers of N.Z. (In-;) is the only body recognised by Head Office and Dominion Council of Federated Farmers of N.Z. (Inc). It has been especially laid down at our Dominion conference "that no Province shall enrol members or hold members in another province."

Since Federated Farmers Auckland Province (Inc) has subscribed to the rules of the Federated Farmers of N.Z. (Inc) any such meetings as quoted above are entirely out of order. Yours etc., S. A. WELLS, Provincial President of Bay of Plenty Province Federated Farmers of N.Z. (Inc).

As far as we are concerned, both bodies exist in. the district and the meetings of both will be reported. Ed.
