USED DEVICE TO CATCH TROUT
“An unsportsmanlike device,” an otter board or paravane, was used by Archibald Roy Pocock to catch trout. Before Mr E. L. W a lton, S.M., in the Whakatane Court yesterday he pleaded guilty to its use and to having fished while not being the holder of a licence.
The prosecution was -brought by the Department of Internal Affairs, for which it was stated that he was suspected of being a frequent poacher. The otter board was demonstrated in court.
Mr B. S. Barry said Pocock was a married man with a large family and was rather ignorant. He had caught fish for food. Pocock was fined £5, plus costs, on each charge.
