Pony Clubs Arrange Programme At Their Annual Meeting
The annual reports of the Whakatane District Pony Club < and branches presented at the annual meeting last Friday were most encouraging and the outlook for the coming season is bright. A picnic rally has been arranged for the opening of the newly-formed Edgecumbe branch, Mrs C. J. Carter being secretary, and Mr Goldsmith, chairman. Members of White Pine, Whakatane, Taneatua and Thornton-Matata branches will attend at Mrs C. J. Carter’s farm Otakiri Road on October 8.
A combined rally of all branches will be held early in November to compete for the club points cup, at present held by White Pine branch. It is hoped to arrange an excnange of, visits with Galatea and a combined trek during the school holidays. The formation of a club in Te Puke, it is hoped, will bring more outside competition into the big event of the season, the gymkhana, the date of which will be decided by the new committee. Officers eected were:—
President, Mr Walsh (Galatea); commissioner, Mr H. T. Mexted (Thornton-Matata); secretary, Mrs Cobbe (Whakatane); head instructors, Mr Blomfield (Whakatane) and Mr Davis (White Pine); committee (two delegates from each branch), Dr Blomfield, Mrs Lynds, Mrs Howard; Mr Davis, Mr Gary, Mr Heard, Mr Goodhue, Mrs Carter, Mrs Orr, Mrs Yeoman, Mr Richardson, Mrs Maghey.
