WHAKATANE AND TANEATUA SELL STAMP QUOTAS
In spite of the fact that this year’s quota was increased from £270 to £3lO as a result of the increase of population, for the first time in history Whakatane sold its quota of health stamps on the opening day of the campaign on Monday and the Taneatua quota was sold within a quarter of an hour.
Whakatane sales were £340 as against £243 on the opening day last year. Post Office officials are pleased with the result. They attribute the marked success of the campaign this year to the enthsuiasm shown by the Chamber of Commerce canvassers, to the good work done by relays of nurses in the Post Office lobby, to assistance given by Miss Lawes at the school and publicity given to the campaign in the Beacon.
“There is no doubt that people have now come to realise the great value of health camps and the sellers report that most people bought the stamps gladly,” said the postmaster, Mr G. A. Wilkes, yesterday. The quota at Taneatua was also exceeded by a considerable sum. Actually, the Taneatua quota was exceeded in the first quarter-hour after opening for business in the morning.
