Ruatoki Defeats Poroporo; Bracken Cup Elimination
Ruatoki continued its winning run by defeating Poroporo 6-3 in a close fought Bracken Cup football match on Saturday. Both teams fielded fairly heavy packs and the work in the forwards was of a high standard. / For the greater part of the game Ruatoki enjoyed a feast of the ball but the backs seemed to lack penetration and a great many scoring opportunities were lost. The Poroporo team was perhaps a little unfortunate on ; one .or two occasions, especially in the second half when Merito crossed the line only to knock on in goal. If Ruatoki can maintain present form Wairaka should not find • hings
easy next Saturday when the rechallenge is to be played. Poroporo led for the whole of the first half following a try by J. Biddle but Ruatoki evened up in the first minute of the second with a line runaway try by Williams who ran 50 yards to score. The kick missed and play settled down to a hard forward tussle with Poroporo having the advantage territorially. They could not score however when rain intervened the Ruatoki forwards took full advantage of the greasy ball. With about 20 minutes to go Stone, following up a speculator kick, scored near the corner. The kick failed and Poroporo tsvhing into the attack. However the Ruatoki defence held and the game ended 6-3 in favour of Ruatoki.
