NO MORE SHIELD MATCHES WILL BE PLAYED IN SEASON
There will be no further matches for the Te Hurinui Apanui Shield this season. Rotorua has elected to play Hauraki Plains for the Peace Cup on Saturday instead of playing Whakatane and have, therefore, forfeited the right to re-challenge. At Whakatane, on Saturday, Poroporo will play Ruatoki in a Bracken Cup elimination match and United juniors will play Wairaka juniors in a Wilson Cup elimination.
Poroporo juniors are defaulting t.j Paroa in the Wilsom/Cup contest. Paroa seniors will go to Murupara to play for • the Pile Cup on Saturday. On the following Saturday, October 7, Wairaka will meet the winner of the Poroporo-Ruatoki match in the final for the Bracken Cup. The virtual junior final will be played between the winner of the United-Wairaka and Paroa juniors.
The season will close on October 14 with Maori-Pakeha junior and senior matches, the proceeds to go to the injured players’ fund. Should Paroa win the Pile Cup on Saturday the final between United and Paroa will be fitted in with this programme.
