Edgecumbe Farewell To Teacher And P.T.A. Members

A large number of parents and friends gathered. at the Edgecumbe School to farewell the infant mistress, Miss Clibbon, who is to be married soon* and Mr and Mrs Quaile, who are moving away from Edgecumbe. Mr D. McCorquindale, president of the Parent-Teacher Association, M.C.’d £he evening which took the form of a social. Items were given by Mr Stones, song; Mr Storer, song; Mr Blake and Mr Scrivener, violin; Mr Nichol, banjo; Mr Crooks, harmonica. Mr Lopdell was accompanist. Miss Clibbon has been infant mis tress for two years and during that time, has been chiefly responsible for the keen interest the parents have taken in the P.T.A. and the happy relations which' exist between the parents and the teachers. Mr Patterson, the headmaster, spoke of the remarkable progress the infant room had made during her stay here and of the difficulties of replacing a teacher of her calibre and wished her the very best in her new life.

Mr McCorquindale spoke in similar terms as a parent and on behalf of all present, presented her with a 'crystal vase as a wedding gift. Miss Clibbon also received a shoulder spray from Mrs McCorquindale Miss Clibbon thanked all present for the gift and good wishes, also for their support during her term there and urged parents to continue in active support of the P.T.A. Mr and Mrs Quaile also received the good wishes of the gathering. Mr Withy, who spoke for the School Committee in the absence of its chairman, told of the work Mr Quaile had done in the interest of the school the capable handling of the P.T.A. in its initial stages when Mr Quaile was a foundation member.

Mr McCorquindale then presented them with a carved card box. Mrs Quaile also received a shoulder spray.

A savoury supper was served by the men.

To wind up the evening, a bring-and-buy stall was conducted by Mr Whittaker, a Whakatane auctioneer. A large variety of goods was disposed of, the proceeds from which were added to the school funds.
