LONG HOLIDAYS FROM SCHOOL
!How two children had taken long holidays from school was described in the Whakatane Court yesterday when the Education Department brought a charge against J. R. Anderson that he had absented his daughters, Maggie and Gwen from school. Anderson pleaded guilty. Mr C. T. Reade, for the Education Department, said the children had been on the roll of the Te Haepaenga School. When it was closed, they did not attend school for 18 months. They enrolled at the Matahina school after that for a time and had not attended school anywhere since. Correspondence had not been answered. Te Haepaenga was 22 miles from
Te Teko, it \yas said for Anderson, ' whose employer, it was said, would try to interest Anderson in a correspondence course. There was no means of transport to Te Teko. Fines of £1 with costs were imposed by Mr Walton S.M in respect of each child.
