Four Nominations From Bay Of Plenty For N.I. Rugby Team
The two Maori All Black forwards, H. Ranapia, Whakatane, and S. McLaughlin, Opotiki, have been nominated by the Bay of Plenty Rugby Union for the North Island Rugby team to play South Island at Auckland on September 23. Four players have been nominated from the Bay. The other two are backs and both from Rotorua. They are A. Douglas, five-eighth, and F. Martin, three-quarter. Douglas arid McLaughlin played for the New Zealand Maori team against the British Isles at Wellington earlier this season while Ranapia toured Fiji with the Maori team in 1947. Martin has been a Bay of Plenty representative for some years and played for the Combined Eastern Districts against British Isles at Gisborne in June. A curtain raiser to the inter-is-land game will be the annual match between Bay of Plenty and Auckland B.
