Work Of Organising Committee Continues With Preparations

Work of preparing for the Matatua sextennial celebrations has been going on at Whakatane for the past few months. A hard working organising committee has prepared the programme and contacted all subtribes. There has been general enthusiasm for the function right throughout the Ngatiawa district and there has been no lack of assistance. All districts have come forward and the committee is confident that the celebrations will be an outstanding success. A start has now been made with the memorial gate, which is expected to be completed by the end of the month. The area about Wairaka Pa has been cleared and levelled and new grass growth is coming away strongly.
