Snow At Ruatoki & Other Bay Districts

The first time for many years snow was seen at Ruatoki on Monday morning. Areas across the river towards the Urewera had a white mantle and many of the higher peaKs were well covered. Parts of Waimana also experienced snow. In other districts temperatures were very low and all day the atmosphere was very cold. Mounts Edgecumbe and Tarawera were snow covered and land arouni Cie foot of both mountains had light falls.

At Galatea and Murupara it was particularly cold with snow falling in both districts. A cold wind from the south swept Whakatane Monday and yesterday and helped to keep most people well wrapped in woollens and beside blazing fires. Hot water bottles have been popular at night for the last few weeks.
